Fort Wayne Man Found Guilty of Attempted Murder

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): In an Allen County courtroom, Daniel Spells of Fort Wayne was found guilty of attempted murder and other charges stemming from a 2013 incident in which he fired a gun at a police officer.

According to the News-Sentinel Spells was found guilty of attempted murder, carrying a handgun without a license with a prior felony conviction, criminal recklessness, resisting law enforcement and being a habitual offender.

Judge Fran Gull scheduled sentencing for 8:30 a.m., July 1st.

The charges result from Spells’ arrest back in May 2013. Police got a call to check out a domestic disturbance. Officers arrived on the scene and saw a man matching the suspect description involved in the domestic dispute.

One of the officers stopped the man, who was Spells. Once the officer started asking questions, that’s when Spells reportedly pulled out a gun. The officer tackled him and 12 shots were fired. The officer suffered a gunshot wound to the shoulder, but then arrested Spells.
