Fort Wayne man sentenced to 15 years after selling heroin and illegally entering U.S.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): A Fort Wayne man was sentenced to 15 years in prison after police say he sold heroin and entered the country illegally.

Miguel Verduzco Velazquez, 35, pleaded guilty in March to charges of possessing with intent to sell 1 kilogram or more of heroin and illegal reentry into the United States, according to United States Attorney David Capp.

He was sentenced to 15 years in prison and five years of supervised release this week.

In August 2014, an officer with the Allen County Sheriff’s Department pulled Velazquez over. During the traffic stop, a K-9 found drugs in the vehicle that Velazquez was driving. When the drugs were found,Velazquez ran and was arrested after a short chase, police said.

About a kilogram of heroin was found in the car and police said Velazquez had just delivered another kilogram to someone.
