Fort Wayne Police, K9 capture shooting suspect

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): One person was injured after an early morning shooting near downtown Fort Wayne today.

Fort Wayne Police spokesman Michael Joyner tells WOWO news an officer was called to a bar at Fairfield and Dewald at about 3:30am on a report of shots being fired. They found a man inside the bar with a gunshot wound to his right thigh. He told police he was shot as he was getting into a car in the parking lot, and didn’t know who pulled the trigger.

Police found several 9-millimeter shell casings at the scene, and an hour later a K-9 officer tracked down and bit the suspected shooter, identified by police as 22-year-old Eduardo Lopez, when he apparently returned to the scene.

Lopez is now in custody.
