Fort Wayne Tourism Better Than State Average

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): A new report shows that Fort Wayne is enjoying more visitors to local sites. 

To the tune of 5.8 million people in 2013. That's up 4.3 percent from 2013 – double the state average.  The study comes from the state's office of tourism and Visit Fort Wayne.

Nearly 9,000 local residents are employed in tourism job. According to Visit Fort Wayne 87 percent of every dollar spent by visitors to Allen County, stays in the community.

Visit Fort Wayne says the Children's Zoo and TinCaps have contributed to the increase in tourism. Both have sustained high attendance figures over the last three years.

Conventions are also strong. Grand Wayne Convention Center and Allen County War Memorial Coliseum have hosted more than 200 groups, and brought more than 1.5 million visitors to Fort Wayne/Allen County in 2014.
