FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): The Fort Wayne Regional Trails Project has gotten first-round approval for Regional Cities funding.

The Northeast Indiana Regional Development Authority approved a $1.7-million request for the project, which will fund 20% of the project’s total cost.

The trails proposed would extend from Lower Huntington Road through Waynedale to Foster Park, from Washington Center Road to Wallen Road, from Fernhill Avenue to State Blvd, and from the Fernhill-State Trail to Franke Park and the Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo.

The proposal now goes to the Indiana Economic Development Corporation for review and final approval.

The board also heard presentations from three other groups including South Adams Trails in Adams County, which requested a $498,000 grant; The Enterprise Center in Steuben County, which requested a $323,000 grant; and United Brethren Block in Huntington County, which requested a $1.6 million grant.
