INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ A small municipality within Indianapolis is suing a hospital operator, alleging water runoff from a shuttered hospital is costing the city tens of thousands of dollars a year by infiltrating its sanitary sewers.
Beech Grove's suit filed Tuesday in Marion Superior Court names the Franciscan Alliance Inc., a Catholic nonprofit that operates 14 hospitals in Indiana and Illinois.
It contends the city has paid for years for treatment of storm runoff and groundwater entering its sanitary sewers from the former St. Francis Hospital, which moved in 2012 to a new site in Indianapolis.
Beech Grove Mayor Dennis Buckley says the city's costs may exceed tens of thousands of dollars a year.
Franciscan St. Francis Health spokesman Joe Stuteville says the hospital had no immediate comment.
