Funeral for 2 drowned Gary boys set for Saturday

GARY, Ind. (AP): Funeral services for two Gary boys who drowned in a water-filled pit will be held Saturday.

Northwest Indiana media outlets report that Gary Mayor Karen Freeman-Wilson will speak Saturday at the services for 8-year-old Terrion Smith and 9-year-old Donel Smith.

A steady stream of mourners filed by the boys' coffins Thursday during visitation at a funeral home decorated with floral arrangements designed to look like basketballs.

The boys drowned in a water-filled pit in Hobart on June 14. The pit has since been drained and filled.

A police report says Donel was trying to help Terrion when both boys drowned.
