HAMMOND, Ind. (AP) _ A Hammond police officer put on administrative leave after a video posted online showed him hitting a police dog is back on the job after a review found he didn't abuse or harm the canine.
But Police Chief John Doughty says the officer will get additional training because his actions were outside his “normal routine and training.''
Video footage posted on YouTube shows the officer lifting the dog off the ground by its collar and hitting it with a leash during a traffic stop. The department hasn't released the officer's name because it is a personnel matter.
The Times of Munster reports Dan Parker of Vohne Liche Kennels says the dog never showed signs of stress or abuse and its tail was wagging the entire time.
