Headwaters Junction Gets Financial Boost; Locomotive Trips About to Begin

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): A railroad project in Fort Wayne is getting a financial boost.

Steel Dynamics has donated $15,000 to help find out if Headwaters Junction is a fit for the downtown Fort Wayne riverfront.

The money will go towards a marketing and feasibility study of the project, according to the Fort Wayne Railroad Historical Society.

Other events and a rail interpretive center would also be based at the Headwaters Junction.

Meanwhile, an old steam locomotive that would be housed at Headwaters Junction is about to make its debut.

On July 18th and 19th, the 400 ton steam locomotive No. 765 will depart from Fort Wayne to Lafyette.

The “Wabash Cannonball” boards on Nelson Road between Fort Wayne and New Haven and will take travelers to and from Lafayette on the same day.

A test run of the Wabash Cannonball will take place Friday between Fort Wayne and Leipsic, Ohio.

You can find more information on the locomotive excursion trips at fortwaynerailroad.org.
