Heartland Ambulance Service Handles Allen County Medical Calls

(Jon Zimney/WOWO News)
Heartland Ambulance Service began handling Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) for areas of Allen County outside city limits on December 29, 2025, keeping 911 medical calls running without interruption.
The change came after Three Rivers Ambulance Authority (TRAA) announced in September that it would stop handling medical calls from outside Fort Wayne city limits starting December 29.
Allen County Fire Chiefs quickly arranged the new service.
Heartland Ambulance call-takers stay on the line with 911 callers, giving instructions until EMS arrives.
Leaders say people now receive the same level of care no matter where an emergency happens in Allen County.
