FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): It’s about that time of year when home repair fraud kicks up. It’s estimated that Americans will spend about $133.9 billion on contracted home improvement projects and do-it-yourself repairs this year, and each year Americans lose millions of dollars on fraudulent repairs. Police give some clues to know if you might become a victim of a fraud, like if the person: offers to make repairs with leftover materials from another job in the neighborhood; solicits door-to-door; accepts only cash; or won’t provide references. And if you’re ever in doubt, contact the Better Business Bureau and find out the history of the person or company.
