INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ Indiana is ramping up its emergency operations ahead of heavy rainfall that could spark weekend flooding as Tropical Storm Bill's remnants sweeps across the state.
The state Department of Homeland Security said Thursday it has increased staffing at its downtown Indianapolis emergency operations center to help public safety officials respond.
Gov. Mike Pence says the state “will remain vigilant of this situation and is prepared to assist victims of flooding that may occur in the coming days.''
The National Weather Service has issued several flood warnings for parts of rivers in northern and western Indiana.
Weather service meteorologist Sonia Mark says forecasts suggest up to 4 inches of rain could fall on southern Indiana as the tropical storm's remnants push through the Ohio River valley on Friday and Saturday.
