INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ Indiana's five largest electric utilities have filed proposals outlining energy-efficiency programs they hope to implement when a statewide program killed by state lawmakers ends later this year.
The Duke Energy, Vectren, Indiana Michigan Power, Northern Indiana Public Service Co. and Indianapolis Power & Light plans for reducing customers' energy use need approval from the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission.
IURC spokeswoman Danielle McGrath says the commission will consider the proposals as it drafts recommendations requested by Gov. Mike Pence on a successor to the Energizing Indiana program, which ends Dec. 31.
Citizens Action Coalition executive director Kerwin Olson says the utilities' plans are OK but all but one of them would cover only a single year. He says the consumer watchdog group would prefer that utilities offer 3-year energy-efficiency programs.
