INDIANAPOLIS (AP): The director of Indianapolis' animal shelter has been placed on indefinite leave pending the results of an internal investigation that comes just four months into his tenure.
Department of Public Safety spokesman Al Larsen says that Animal Care and Control Director Dennis Papenmeier was placed on leave Thursday.
Larsen declined to say why the city took the action against Pappenmeier, who's the shelter's 11th director in 12 years.
He assumed that post in December, taking over for previous director Dan Shackle, who resigned after being suspended for his actions during a sweep of animal shelters and businesses.
Shelter Advisory Board member Christian Mosburg says he's concerned about the shelter's turnover in leadership.
