JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. (AP) _ A southern Indiana sheriff charged in July with giving a prostitute a deputy's badge and uniform has retired from the department.
Clark County Sheriff Danny Rodden's attorney, Larry Wilder, tells the News and Tribune Rodden had “determined that the time was now to leave'' his post as sheriff.
The 60-year-old Rodden was indicted July 29 on seven counts of making false statements to investigators and one count of counseling the destruction of evidence in a federal investigation.
A federal indictment alleges Rodden lied to FBI agents and advised the prostitute to destroy the deputy's badge and uniform.
Authorities say Rodden gave the woman the items so she could get hotel discounts. He has denied the charges.
Rodden placed himself on paid administrative leave the day after his arrest.
