Lafayette Food Plant to Receive $65M Expansion

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) – A London-based ingredient manufacturer is investing $65 million in an expansion at one of its two plants in Lafayette.

Tate & Lyle announced Monday that the money will be invested in the Lafayette South facility this year. The company says eight new jobs and new equipment will be introduced at the plant to help expand local production of fructose sweetener to meet growing demand in the Americas and Asia.

The Indianapolis Star (http://indy.st/19vfAgB ) reports this is the company's second expansion within the past year. A $90 million expansion was announced last July for the company's Sagamore facility.

Tate & Lyle will receive up to $250,000 in conditional tax credits from the Indiana Economic Development Corporation once the jobs are filled.

The performance-based tax credits were approved by the city of Lafayette.
