FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO) – It was a record-breaking season in the area’s Salvation Army’s Angel Tree distribution.

It all wrapped up on Friday, with a total of 2,000 people having their Christmas wishes made.

Dena Smith, Core Officer at The Salvation Army, said this year they received a high number of donations. She said it was a step-up in a way they have never seen before.

Some of that can be credited to social media, where Angel Tree shopping videos have been trending, encouraging others to step up as well.

Because of the increase in donations, the Salvation Army was able to expand its offerings, according to 21 Alive News.

Each child was able to receive a new coat and a new pair of shoes, too.
