Man Accused In Fatal Shooting Of 2 Men In Lafayette

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) _ A 19-year-old Delphi man is accused of fatally shooting two men in Lafayette just hours before he was arrested for driving while intoxicated and auto theft.

Police say 36-year-old Aaron Hunter Jr. and 46-year-old Terry Smith Jr. died Tuesday after being found with gunshot wounds in the front yard of a residence. Lafayette police Lt. Jim Taul says police responded to a call later about a suspicious vehicle, and the suspect was arrested after being found slumped over inside.

Taul says police realized then that the man matched the description of a person of interest in the shooting. He was rearrested at the Tippecanoe County Jail on Thursday on preliminary charges including two counts of murder.

The suspect was being held without bond Thursday.
