Man Arrested in Double Homicide in Southern Indiana

DOVER HILL, Ind. (AP) _ Police have arrested a 33-year-old man in the slaying of two men in southwestern Indiana's Martin County.

Indiana State Police say the man from Shoals faces two preliminary charges of murder for the deaths of 82-year-old Alan Sims and 52-year-old Tom Tharp of Shoals.

Police say Tharp's family reported him missing Tuesday night. An officer went Wednesday to Sims' property near the community of Dover Hill looking for Tharp, and found Sims dead in a garage. Tharp was found dead in a garden about 30 yards away, and police say investigators believe both died from single gunshot wounds.

The suspected gunman was arrested after he crashed a car while fleeing from officers. Police say the man had lived on Sims' property but was asked to leave.
