BLOOMINGTON, IND. (WOWO) A man originally charged with multiple counts of rape connected to an incident at Indiana University will serve no prison time after pleading guilty to a reduced felony charge, according to court records.
Plea agreement results in reduced charge
Court documents show Gregory Gabler pleaded guilty in Monroe Circuit Court 2 to criminal confinement resulting in bodily injury, a Level 6 felony. In exchange for the plea agreement, prosecutors dismissed two Level 3 felony rape charges that had been pending in the case.
Gabler was sentenced to six years of probation.
Sentencing includes probation and restrictions
As part of the sentencing order, Gabler is required to comply with a no-contact order involving the victim and complete 200 hours of community service.
Court records indicate he has been permitted to reside in Florida for the duration of his probation.
Initial arrest followed campus investigation
Gabler was arrested in September 2024 by Indiana University Police Department after a sexual assault was reported at an on-campus residence hall.
Investigators said officers located Gabler in a classroom on campus before bringing him to police headquarters for questioning.
He was later booked into the Monroe County Jail on charges including rape, criminal confinement, and sexual battery. At the time of his arrest, university police issued a trespass warning barring him from all Indiana University property.
Case status
It is not currently clear whether Gabler remains enrolled at Indiana University.
Court officials confirmed the case has concluded under the terms of the plea agreement and sentencing order issued by the Monroe County court.
