Man charged after pointing gun at cop outside church

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (NETWORK INDIANA) – The Allen County Sheriff’s Department says a 40-year-old man faces several charges after pointing a gun at a New Haven Police officer Saturday.

That officer was at Central Ministries Saturday night when he called for help claiming that Tyler Leavitt had pointed a gun at him. This all happened while the church was set up for a live nativity event.

The Allen County Sheriff’s Department says Leavitt was on church property when they arrived and one of their officers shot their weapon during the investigation. The Allen County Sheriff’s Department says one person was shot and is in non-life threatening condition, but it has not been reported who that person was.

Indiana State Police say they are investigating the incident.

It was confirmed Monday that Leavitt is facing seven charges in the case. One of those charges includes criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon.
