Man found shot in car on Holgate Drive, police investigate

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO):  Officers with the Fort Wayne Police Department are investigating a Monday night shooting that left one man dead.

Jason Anthony, spokesperson for the Fort Wayne Police Department, tells WOWO News shots were fired Monday night, just before 10 p.m., in the 6100 block of Holgate Drive near Hessen Cassel Road.

Someone called police saying they heard a “loud bang” and noticed a man running from the area. Once officers arrived, they found a vehicle in the middle of a field.  A man in the driver’s seat appeared to be suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the head. He was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition, but upon arriving he was pronounced dead.

Police believe the shooting happened in the parking lot of a nearby apartment complex.  It appears the victim drove into the field after being shot.  Detectives are currently looking for witnesses.
