Man Sentenced for Buying Guns in Indiana, Selling in Chicago

CHICAGO (AP) _ A Chicago man convicted of helping to buy more than 40 guns in Indiana and then transporting them for sale on the streets of Chicago has been sentenced to just over three years in prison.

A Thursday statement from the U.S. Attorney's office in Chicago says 25-year-old Winston Geralds purchased the weapons at gun shows in Indianapolis and Crown Point, Indiana. A Chicago buyer was cooperating with federal agents.

The government's sentencing memorandum says Geralds “very directly contributed to the cycle of gun violence'' in Chicago.

Geralds pleaded guilty in May to one count of illegally transporting firearms across state lines.  U.S. District Judge John Lee sentenced him in federal court in Chicago.
