INDIANAPOLIS (AP): The national rollout of Republican vice presidential candidate Mike Pence has touted the Indiana governor’s record on jobs and tax cuts.

While many of the claims Donald Trump has made about his running mate are accurate, the context is more complicated.

Trump touted the 5 percent individual income tax cut approved in 2013 as the largest one in Indiana history. But only once in the 1970s was there another income tax cut. And statewide property tax caps implemented before Pence took office are saving taxpayers much more money.

Pence highlights that more people are working in Indiana than ever before. While the Indiana unemployment rate has dropped from 8 percent when he took office to 5 percent in May, the state’s population is also at a record level.
