MODOC, Ind. (AP) _ A state lawmaker says a newly dedicated $375 million wind farm is the largest economic development project to date in an eastern Indiana county.
Republican state Rep. Greg Beumer hosted Monday's dedication for the new Headwaters Wind Farm at his farm in the Randolph County town of Modoc. One of the 100 wind turbines erected by EDP Renewables North America soars nearly 500 feet behind his home.
The (Muncie) Star Press reports that Beumer called the $375-million project the largest investment in Randolph County's history, rivaling Cardinal Ethanol's $150-million ethanol production plant built seven years ago.
The new Headwaters Wind Farm generates enough electricity to power more than 50,000 households. The project helped Indiana Michigan Power boost to more than half its electricity generated by non-carbon-emitting sources.
