Ohio State Highway Patrol Investigates Serious Injury Crash in Defiance County

DEFIANCE, OH (WOWO) The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a serious injury crash involving an Ohio Department of Transportation plow truck in Defiance County.

The crash happened at approximately 1:50 a.m. on December 14 on State Route 66, south of the Defiance–Williams County line, in Tiffin Township.

Troopers say 47-year-old Scott Burchfield of Montpelier was driving a 2000 Buick Regal northbound when he struck the rear of an ODOT plow truck that was actively treating the roadway. The plow truck had green, amber, and white warning lights activated at the time of the crash.

After impact, Burchfield’s vehicle traveled off the right side of the roadway and caught fire.

Burchfield was transported by ambulance to Defiance Regional Medical Center. The driver of the plow truck was not injured.

Alcohol is suspected to be a factor in the crash. The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Defiance County Sheriff’s Office, Tiffin Township Fire and Rescue, and K K Collision.

The crash remains under investigation.
