Parents of Soldier who Killed Self to Discuss Law

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – The parents of an Indiana National Guardsman who took his own life while home on leave from Afghanistan are going to talk about the pending new law named for him.

Jeff and Barb Sexton of Farmland will join Sen. Joe Donnelly at a news conference Friday in Indianapolis to discuss the Jacob Sexton Military Suicide Prevention Act.

Donnelly introduced the legislation that was included in the defense bill that cleared the Senate late last week and awaits President Barack Obama's signature.

Under the Jacob Sexton Act all members of the military will receive annual mental health assessments.

Sexton was home on a 15-day leave from Afghanistan in 2009 when he took his own life in a Muncie movie theater at the age of 21.
