AUBURN, Ind. (WOWO): An investigation over missing evidence from the Auburn Police Department now goes to an internal disciplinary board.

The panel will determining if internal procedures were ignored or violated after more than $2,000 in cash went missing.

In a press conference Tuesday, an admittedly emotional and apologetic Auburn Police Chief Martin McCoy said weapons including knives and a shotgun also came up missing.

However, he says it's likely they were destroyed but not popular documented in their system.

In January the money came up missing from the evidence room, that set off a series of investigations spanning more than seven months. The independent probes involved detectives with the Allen County Sheriff's Department and the Indiana State Police and included more than three dozen people, including officers, civilians and contractors

With the criminal case failing to yield enough details, the disciplinary board will determine what actions come next. McCoy says a recommendation would like come next week.
