Police pursuit and K-9 attack in Paulding Wednesday, one arrested

PAULDING, Ohio (WOWO) – One man has been arrested after a police pursuit in Paulding, Ohio Wednesday.

Around 3:19 p.m., the Paulding Police Department received reports of an assault with a knife at the Marathon Gas Station on North Williams Street.

When police arrived to the scene, a man fled in his vehicle, and it was reported he still had a knife.

Police pursued him for several blocks before the driver, Marquis A. Goings, Sr., 63 of Latty, Ohio, stopped his vehicle at the intersection of North Cherry Street and West George Street.

Goings exited his vehicle and charged toward a deputy, who then released his K-9 partner from the vehicle.

At the same time, another officer, Deputy Nicholas Cunningham, took Goings to the ground in an attempt to take him into custody. The K-9 bit the back of Goings thigh, but also bit Deputy Cunningham in the process.

Goings was eventually taken into custody and charges are still pending, as alcohol and/or drugs are suspected to be contributing factors.

Both Goings and Deputy Cunningham are expected to heal from their injuries.
