Angola Strip Club Case Heads to Federal Appeals Court

ANGOLA, Ind. (AP) – The 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Chicago will hear arguments on whether officials with the Cityof Angola acted properly when it prevented a Fort Wayne couple from opening a strip club.

The Herald-Republican reports oral arguments are scheduled for Nov. 4 for the case involving Showgirl III owners Alva and Sandra Butler and the city of Angola.  The couple filed the lawsuit in March 2013 alleging their civil rights had been violated.

After most of the rulings went in the city's favor in January, attorneys for the Butlers appealed. One part of the original case remains active in South Bend a dispute over whether alternate sites existed to allow the business under previous and current law and whether the Butlers could receive damages.
