Proposed Power Plant Divides Small Indiana Town

MORRISTOWN, Ind. (AP) _ Many residents of a small central Indiana town are rallying against a $500 million power plant a developer is planning to build.

Energy company Tenaska announced in December they were considering a site in Morristown's industrial park for the natural gas-fueled power plant.

Construction hasn't started yet and many residents are working against the project, with perhaps 100 Stop Tenaska'' signs dotting the town about 20 miles southeast of Indianapolis.

Sara Goedde tells the Daily Reporter she worries the plant proposed for near her home would cause noise, light, and water troubles.

Tenaska executive Helen Manroe is to speak during next week's town council meeting, but says the company can't answer many questions since it doesn't know when the economic climate will be right to build the plant.
