Richmond Ice Festival Returns for 2nd Year

RICHMOND, Ind. (AP): An eastern Indiana ice festival that spotlights the work of skilled ice-carvers will be back for a second year after sponsors and others stepped up with needed funds.
Richmond's MELTDOWN Winter Ice Festival had been in danger of cancellation, prompting event organizers to issue a plea for an additional $4,500 in sponsorships and donations.
Wayne County Convention & Tourism Bureau executive director Mary Walker says the free family event in Richmond is “now a go” thanks to a late influx of money.
The festival about 65 miles east of Indianapolis is set for Jan. 30-31 and Feb. 1 in Richmond's Historic Depot District.
Organizers say last year's inaugural festival drew about 5,000 visitors and brought a surge in business to restaurants during the lean period after Christmas.
