FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO) – Southwest Allen County Schools will implement a fall break into their 2020-2021 school year.

The school board approved a new calendar Tuesday with a 3-2 vote that will start the school year earlier and include a week-long fall break, according to our partners in news at ABC 21.

Classes will begin on August 5, but as a result, students and most of the faculty and staff will have off the first full week of October.

SACS officials asked for community input before Tuesday night’s meeting and received a mixed response.

About 59 percent of parents preferred the traditional calendar school year, but teachers and current students preferred the fall break option.

Both calendars include the required 180 days of instruction per year.
