FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): Teacher jobs are riding on the passage of a ballot referendum for Southwest Allen County Schools (SACS) next month.

The school district says the May 3rd ballot referendum is asking taxpayers to keep renewing a property tax measure that gives them the money needed to keep 52 positions on the payroll, 49 of which are teachers.

Our partners in news at 21Alive report that, if voters say no, it’ll not only mean job cuts but bigger class sizes per teacher as well.

The tax levy has been renewed by voters over and over since 1985. Last year it got 71% of the vote.
