Schererville Adds Backing To South Shore Rail Expansion

SCHERERVILLE, Ind. (AP) _ Another community in northwest Indiana has pledged its support to an extension of the South Shore commuter rail.

The (Munster) Times (http://bit.ly/1JMeiLL ) reports the Town Council of Schererville approved contributing to the project Wednesday. The town would give 10 percent of its annual local economic development income tax revenue to the project, equating to nearly $63,000 a year for 30 years.

The South Shore project is estimated to cost $571 million and would extend service to Dyer, which is adjacent to Schererville.
