Sen. Wyss’ Bill to Allow Allen County Sports, Convention Development Moves to Gov. Pence

ALLEN COUNTY, Ind. (WOWO): Senator Wyss' Bill to allow Allen County sports and convention development moves to Governor Pence's desk. A release sent from Senator Wyss' office says:

Allen County would be allowed to continue its sports and convention development under legislation authored by State Sen. Tom Wyss (R – Fort Wayne). Senate Bill 308 cleared its final passage in the General Assembly today and moves to the governor’s desk for further consideration.

SB 308 would allow a Professional Sports and Convention Development Area (PSDA) in Allen County to be extended, terminating before Jan. 1, 2028 or up to 25 years after debt is issued to finance a facility within the PSDA. It would also provide that the State Budget Agency must approve any final financing for the facility.

The extension of this designation would allow Allen County to continue to develop the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum, which is currently considering a $12.4 million expansion of its Exposition Center.

“In order for the Coliseum to finance this project with a bond issue, the PSDA expiration date must be extended,” Wyss said. “This is crucial to preserving not only a significant economic and cultural tool, but an important icon in the Fort Wayne community. It’s my hope this new development will attract more visitors to our area and help Allen County continue to thrive for years to come.”
