South Bend School Officials to Revisit Late-Start Proposal

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) _ South Bend Community School Corp. officials plan to revisit a proposal to push back start times for intermediate and high school students.

The late-start time proposal calling for more than an hour delay was rejected this summer. But superintendent Carole Schmidt told the school board this week that University of Notre Dame fellows are reworking the proposal to address concerns over transportation and athletics and will present their ideas to the board on Dec. 14.

School board president Jay Caponigro tells the South Bend Tribune (http://bit.ly/20tFhnj) that he would like to hear feedback from parents and teachers before voting on the revised proposal.

Schmidt has said she would like to see later start times for older student implemented next school year.
