Sports Center, Arena Proposed for Fishers

FISHERS, Ind. (AP): An Indianapolis-based company wants to build and operate a $76.4 million sports center and arena in Fishers.

The proposal comes from GK Sports and Entertainment, which would own the facility. It would include a 6,000-seat arena and a fieldhouse that has a baseball training area, 12 basketball courts and an artificial turf area that measures the size of a soccer field.

Company co-owner Barry Kiesel says he thinks the complex could attract a minor league team.

According to the proposal, Fishers would have to provide significant incentives. The City Council is considering a 10-year tax abatement valued at $2 million, as well as a $805,000 annual lease agreement for local youth sports and waiving about $1 million in permitting fees.

The council is set to vote on the proposal May 18.
