Suspect shot by Police in Muncie

MUNCIE, Ind. (WOWO): A suspect is recovering after being shot by a Muncie Police officer early Sunday morning.

Muncie Police Chief Steve Stewart says officers were called to a fight at a bar just before 2:00. When they arrived, the suspect, preliminarily identified as Bryan Modglin, left the scene in a car.

An officer stopped Modglin a short time later. During the stop, Modglin allegedly attacked the officer, hitting him in the face and head. A second officer arrived on the scene and Modglin attacked him as well. Modglin then pinned the officer against a fence and began to strangle the officer, who in turn shot Modglin.

Modglin was taken to IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital in stable condition. The officers were taken to the hospital for treatment of their injuries.

Chief Stewart says Modglin will be preliminarily charged for battering both officers and strangling the second officer.
