Teen Faces Charges in Mall Shooting

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — A 15-year-old Indianapolis boy faces criminal recklessness and other charges for allegedly firing gunshots inside a shopping mall.

No one was injured when several shots were fired about 7 p.m. Friday inside Lafayette Square Mall on Indianapolis’ northwest side.

The teenager was arrested outside the mall near a .22 caliber revolver containing six empty shell casings. Police say the boy had several live rounds with him.

He’s being held at a juvenile detention center on preliminary felony charges of criminal recklessness and possession of a handgun without a license. Police said Saturday they haven’t determined the motive for the shooting.

Police say mall surveillance video shows the teen raising a handgun before firing several rounds toward an unknown person near a storefront area where numerous people, including children, were walking.
