TOLEDO, OH. (WOWO) A 17-year-old was arrested Sunday night after allegedly stealing an excavator in Toledo and swinging the machine’s bucket toward its owner and the owner’s son, according to a police report.

Officers responded to the intersection of Hawley Street and Western Avenue shortly after 7:16 p.m. when the owner reported seeing the teen driving the stolen excavator. When the owner and his son tried to stop him, police say the teen began swinging the bucket in their direction, prompting the owner to fire a round into the air to prevent the suspect from injuring anyone according to WTOL.

Witnesses helped remove the teen from the cab before police arrived. The suspect was taken to a hospital with a nose injury reportedly sustained while being pulled from the excavator.

Police said the teen was arrested, though the report did not specify the charges. WTOL does not identify juveniles unless they are charged as adults.

The investigation is ongoing.
