Truck Carrying Mangoes Overturns on I-70 in Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ A semitrailer dumped a tropical mess as it overturned while carrying 40,000 pounds of mangoes on a highway near downtown Indianapolis.

Police say the truck overturned and spilled part of its load of the fruit about 2 a.m. Wednesday, snarling early morning traffic and closing two lanes of westbound Interstate 70 near its interchange with Interstate 65 on the northeastern edge of the city's downtown. The driver wasn't injured in the single-vehicle crash.

Cleanup crews used a bucket loader to scoop the mangoes into a large trash container brought in to collect the fruit. Workers needed about seven hours to clear the roadway and reopen all lanes.
