UPDATE: Diocese Decreases Herx’s Payment to $543,803

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): A federal judge brought down the $1.9 million awarded to former school teacher Emily Herx to $543,803.

Herx was fired by the Fort Wayne-South Bend Catholic Diocese after undergoing in-vitro fertilization in 2010. IVF is banned under Catholic doctrine.

After a long series of court hearings, Herx was awarded the money for mental suffering and lost wages when she was fired from her job.
