US Prosecutors From Across Nation Meeting In Indy

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ Federal prosecutors from across the country are gathering in Indianapolis to discuss ways to reduce the number of guns in the hands of criminals and other violent crime initiatives.

The U.S. Attorney's Office says the meeting of the Attorney General's Advisory Committee on violent and organized crime is being held Wednesday through Friday. The meeting will include presentations Friday to Indiana law enforcement officials from federal prosecutors in Detroit, Philadelphia, Illinois, New York and New Jersey.

When former U.S. Attorney Joe Hogsett announced the conference in June, he described it as a summit where public safety leaders from Detroit, Chicago, Gary and other urban areas could share ideas to help Indianapolis curb its homicide rate. Hogsett has since resigned the federal post and is considering running for mayor of Indianapolis.
