Washington Sentenced for 2014 Crash That Killed Teen

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): A New Haven man convicted in the alcohol-fueled collision that killed a local teen has been sentenced for the crime.

Thirty-seven year old Jeremy Washington was ordered Monday to serve nine years in prison, with two years suspended.

In March of  2014, an intoxicated Washington fled a a north side bar after a confrontation. Minutes later he ran a red light at St. Joe and Hobson Roads at speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour.

Moments later, his vehicle slammed into the car driven by 17-year-old Haley Nellum,  a Bishop Dwenger student.

Washington was convicted on four-of-eleven charges, including reckless homicide and criminal recklessness.
He wasn't convicted on charges of murder and attempt murder.
