HENRY COUNTY, IND. (WOWO) A woman seriously injured in a 2024 police chase in Henry County, Indiana, has filed a lawsuit alleging negligence. Shanta Schmiesing, 32, and her husband Tyler filed the suit March 23 in Delaware Circuit Court 3, naming Henry County Sheriff John Sproles, Deputy Tanner Strelecky, the Henry County Board of Commissioners, the Sheriff’s Department, and Zacrey Antrim as defendants.

According to FOX59/CBS4, Schmiesing was struck in her 2020 Jeep Wrangler on April 18, 2024, while driving near West McGalliard Road in Muncie. The collision involved a vehicle operated by 23-year-old Antrim, who was fleeing Deputy Strelecky during a high-speed pursuit that spanned more than 15 miles and reached speeds up to 100 miles per hour. The crash left Schmiesing with a lumbar fracture, fractured jaw, dislocated shoulders, and permanent scarring.

The lawsuit asserts that Deputy Strelecky acted without due regard for public safety, continuing the chase through residential and school areas without supervision. FOX59/CBS4 reported that the pursuit occurred while Strelecky had just ended his shift and had not completed Indiana Law Enforcement Academy training.

Schmiesing seeks compensation for medical bills, lost wages, a total-loss vehicle, and “loss of a whole and useful life.” The suit also accuses Sheriff Sproles and Henry County officials of failing to maintain proper chase protocols and refusing to terminate the pursuit before the crash.

Antrim was sentenced in 2025 to 22 years in prison after pleading guilty to resisting law enforcement and causing serious bodily injury. Delaware County prosecutors did not file charges against Deputy Strelecky, citing the incident as a “very close call,” according to FOX59/CBS4.

The Henry County Sheriff’s Department and Sheriff Sproles have not yet commented on the lawsuit.
