Woman threatens suicide, barricades herself in Fort Wayne home

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO) – Fort Wayne police had to shutdown part of Till Road Friday after a woman threatened to kill herself and barricaded herself inside a home.

Police were called to the 1900 block of Till Road around 9:30 a.m. on reports of an armed and suicidal woman.

Once at the scene, officers were told the woman had threatened to kill herself with the gun, but someone was able to safely take it from her before police arrived. Witnesses also reported to police there were still other weapons inside the home that she could easily get access to.

Officers attempted to communicate with the woman, and to safely get her outside, but she refused.

Police called members of the department’s Hostage Negotiation Team and Emergency Services Team to the scene around 10:50 a.m.

At 12:50 p.m., a robot was deployed into the home. The woman then exited the building and surrendered without incident.

During the incident, Till Road was closed to all foot and vehicular traffic.

The woman was transported to a local hospital for evaluation. Charges are pending review by Allen County prosecutors.
