GOSHEN, IND. (WOWO) A woman and her unborn child have died following a collision between a vehicle and a train in Goshen over the weekend, according to authorities.
Yuliya Miroshnichenko, 44, died Monday afternoon from injuries sustained in the crash, which occurred Saturday evening at a railroad crossing on North Main Street.
Crash occurred at North Main Street crossing
The collision happened shortly before 5:30 p.m. Saturday at the railroad crossing on North Main Street in Goshen.
Authorities said a train struck a vehicle carrying multiple occupants. Emergency responders were dispatched to the scene and began lifesaving efforts immediately following the crash.
Miroshnichenko suffered severe injuries and was transported from the scene by medical helicopter to a hospital for treatment.
Unborn child also dies
Officials tell WSBT that medical personnel attempted to save Miroshnichenko’s unborn child immediately after the collision.
Despite those efforts, the child did not survive.
Authorities confirmed both deaths as a result of injuries sustained in the crash.
Other occupants injured
A 39-year-old man and two children, ages 5 and 6, were also injured in the collision.
Officials said their injuries were not considered life-threatening.
All three were transported to a hospital for evaluation and treatment and have since been released.
