WASHINGTON (WOWO): Members of Congress have introduced a bipartisan resolution designating June 7 through June 13, 2026, as National Trailer Safety Week in an effort to promote safer towing practices and reduce trailer-related crashes.
According to supporters of the resolution, the measure is intended to raise awareness about trailer safety and encourage education on proper towing, loading and maintenance procedures.
Among those backing the effort is Indiana Congressman Rudy Yakym.
Supporters say trailer-related incidents contribute to hundreds of deaths and approximately 21,000 injuries nationwide each year. The resolution seeks to highlight the importance of safety checks, equipment inspections and public education to help prevent crashes involving trailers.
The bipartisan measure recognizes National Trailer Safety Week as an opportunity for motorists, businesses, manufacturers and safety organizations to promote best practices for trailer operation and maintenance.
Advocates say increased awareness and training can help reduce preventable accidents while improving safety on the nation’s roadways during the busy summer travel and recreation season.
