ELKHART, Ind. (AP) _ Authorities say one person has died and other is injured after a shooting at a suburban home in northern Indiana.

The Elkhart County Sheriff's Department says the shooting happened about 11 p.m. Wednesday in a residential neighborhood just southeast of the city of Elkhart.

The injured person was taken to a hospital, but information about that person's condition wasn't immediately released.

Sheriff's Capt. Jim Bradberry says the area is now safe but declined to release more information as investigators were trying to determine what happened at the home about 15 miles east of South Bend.
